Mohs Micrographic Surgery
The Most Precise and Effective Skin Cancer Treatment
Mohs micrographic surgery is a specialized outpatient procedure used to treat certain types of skin cancer with unmatched precision. Developed in the 1930s by Dr. Frederic Mohs, this technique allows for immediate microscopic evaluation of removed tissue, ensuring that all roots and extensions of the cancer are eliminated during surgery.
Because of its accuracy, Mohs surgery offers the highest reported cure rate of any skin cancer treatment while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.
Why Choose Mohs Surgery?
Mohs surgery is ideal for:
- High-risk or aggressive skin cancers
- Skin cancers located in delicate or cosmetically sensitive areas, such as:
- Nose, ears, lips, eyelids, and scalp
- Hands, feet, and genitals
Performed by a Specialist
Mohs surgery should only be performed by a physician with specialized training in:
- Dermatology
- Dermatologic surgery
- Dermatopathology
- Mohs micrographic surgery
Our board-certified dermatologist at Mohave Dermatology is expertly trained in Mohs and has extensive experience performing this precise procedure.
What to Expect During Mohs Surgery
- Performed in-office under local anesthesia
- Patients remain awake and comfortable throughout
- Involves removing thin layers of skin and examining each layer under a microscope
- Most cases are completed in three or fewer stages during a single visit
- You should plan to reserve the entire day, just in case more stages are needed
Insurance Coverage
Most insurance plans cover the full cost of Mohs surgery and any necessary reconstructive procedures that follow.

Patient Review
"
Can not say enough good stuff about Dr. Roos and his staff. They were kind, patient, professional, friendly, and great at their jobs. Diane went over and above, and Dr. Roos listened and heard everything I said. Made my surgery a very good experience.
